New York Presbyterian Hospital: Emergency Ward 2113 Hours
Bram Dennison
Bram pushed himself to the wall, upright, as the shocked staff swarmed about the room, assessing injuries and hauling bodies and people about. All the while, gurneys were still pouring into the ER ward, and patients being placed on the unoccupied beds.
As Jane arrived next to him, he hadn't even come to the point where he fully understood his current location, let alone what on Earth had just occurred. Luckily for Jane and her shattered emotional state, Bram wasn't the kind of man to quip sarcastically without thought: now was not even vaguely an appropriate time.
It took only a quick once-over to determine there was something very wrong with her, beyond the stress she'd been spontaneously introduced to. It was times like these that he was actually thankful to have been through the relative hellhole that was the middle-east some years ago. It gave him a certain, reserved attention and edge.
”I don't honestly know either,” he answered, flicking the safety on his pistol,”But it freaked me out...” That was a lie. He'd seen far stranger things. That, in truth, was familiar enough an occurrence that he'd had a gut reaction to it, as was presented; a violent one at that.
”You alright, Jane?”

Once Dean hauled himself up through the hatch and onto the roof, Caterina slammed the hatch back down just to make sure that the worms wouldn't immediately shoot through the open hatch. Catching her breath slowly, the teacher looked around to get her bearings to where the two of them could go from there. She knew of the surface ladders that would get them top side, but what she had to do was figure out where they were. Quickly looking at the young man next to her she looked down at her hands with a somber look. "I'm sorry for acting harsh to you in the beginning, and I'm sorry for opening the car door, I didn't know that would happen to my friend. If I had taken one second to look out the window....I don't know what I would have done." She told her companion in that dark time.
Sighing and looking at the ceiling, Caterina noticed what looked to be a exit to the surface; only that it was across the tracks from them. No way in hell was she going down there, looking to the front of them she looked for a sign to indicate where they were, with no luck she combed her memory for what station the train had gone by before the power went out. It was a ways back, but there might have been a way up behind them. then the memory of the red light came into play, it was an option, but an option almost as bad as the one going across the tracks to the one next to them on the incoming tracks.
Thinking again, Caterina deduced that there was a very good possibility that there was an exit in front of them, the event of what had happened on the ground flooded her thoughts, but it seemed to be the safest way out of the tunnels. Shifting in her spot, Caterina hoisted up her legs and ripped off her stockings so she could have traction on the metal roof of the train cars. Turning to the man, she gestured for him to stand up as she was doing. "We are almost out of here, there should be a escape ladder to the surface if we move forward. If we move now, we can be out of here in a few minutes, its just one more thing to do." She gave a weak smile, all Caterina wanted to do was get herself and this guy out of the tunnels and onto the surface.

Dean Grayson "Emo kid" Hot flesh met the freezing steel roof in an embrace that managed to calm Dean’s nerves. Finally, there was a lull in their mad race to survive, allowing for Dean’s brain to shove aside the adrenaline and the fear; to actually see what was happening. Fear was an omnipresent shadow in the back of his mind, but, for once since the train had stopped, he could tell how deep they were in this unbelievable, otherworldly, scary shit.
Chest heaving as exhaustion caught up to him, Dean rolled over onto his back, blue eyes blank as he let his senses be assaulted by the raw sensations that were taking control of his mind. Screams pierced his hearing along with guttural, almost primal, noises, sending chills down his spine. The smell of the tunnel was no better. The once cool and stale air was now bombarded by the tang of blood and something he couldn’t explain. It all had him thinking about his life; all the missed chances; all the lost dreams; all the little things he regretted. But, also: what were these things? Was this a single phenomenon or was the rest of the world suffering this plague? Would they even survive this?
Dean’s head lolled to the side when he realized the woman next to him was speaking. Those blue eyes of his looked at her but never really saw her. He didn’t really know what she had said, but her tone was obvious. All Dean did was grunt in response to her apology. He was too caught up in his thoughts to care. Instead, he simply uttered: “Dean” as a shaking hand motioned to his chest. It was the best introduction she was going to get. But it was purely selfish. Perhaps, if he died here, someone would remember him; maybe bring his name back to life when his was over.
Sullen, Dean picked himself up carefully. Beneath all the depressed thoughts, there was a basic need to get away; to survive; to live. So he followed the woman, unconsciously thanking his beat-up sneakers for their traction. It wasn’t long until they reached the escape ladder the woman had mentioned. The ladder wasn’t hard to get to; it was the climbing up, into the dark void that was tough. Sweaty hands and metal bars did not mix well, but the tunnel was narrow enough so that when he did slip, all he had to do was lean back into the wall.
Dean knew exactly when he reached the top (the ringing in his ears from when his head banged against the metal hatch had yet to dissipate). Levering his body, he swiftly pushed his way out of the escape tunnel and into the world beyond.

As Dean ascended into the streets above, he was met by a brief flash of orange light emanating from the street lamps. It was quickly cut off by a passing taxi-cab, narrowly missing the edge of the manhole.
Dean successfully climbed out of the subway, with Caterina close behind. Their emergence into the street was met with blaring car horns and high-beams encouraging them to "get the fuck outta' da' way".
Event: Caterina and Dean have successfully survived the subway encounter, be it through a stroke of luck.
Notice: Forty meters to their rear is an intersection. Upon closer observation, it can be discerned that there has been an accident of some kind at the center.
Notice: Nobody in the immediate area appears to be aware of the events in the subway tunnel.
Notice: Five turns remain.

Caterina followed Dean up the escape tunnel and ran towards to the closest sidewalk as the taxi came towards them, not before grabbing on the young man's hand to pull him out of the way. Once her bare feet touched the sidewalk the woman stopped to catch her breath; the subway, the red oily light, the muscle worms, and Richie. It all hit her mentally and physically as she breathed in the smog air: she then vomited on the sidewalk. Tears spilled from her eyes, her body shook and she continued to vomit the contents of her stomach not really caring that bystanders were jumping away from her or trying to get close to her to help her out.
As the last of her stomach's contents came out Caterina shakily stood straight up and looked down at her feet, miraculously she had missed her feet when she up-chucked. Looking over at Dean, and then over to a nearby shop. She recognized as a little cheap store that sold random things for a low price, Caterina patted her pockets and found a five dollar bill crumbled at the very bottom. Looking back to Dean who was catching his breath as well, she pointed to the store.
"I'm going to into buy some 99 cent filp-flops, I'll get you a water." Caterina tried to put on a small smile, but the events of what happened under ground flashed behind her eyes as she turned to walk into the store. Avoiding her self made puddle, Caterina walked into the store, waived at the owners before heading to the back to find the most comfortable of the crappy flip-flops.
