As Caterina turned back to the path ahead of her, the ominous light suddenly "jumped" forward a good distance; it was less than fifty feet behind her now, and making it's presence known. Both her and Dean heard faint whispers in the furthest audible ranges, and paid it some heed. They continued on toward the station for some time with the rest of the passengers willing to leave.
It took the two of them some time to realize that, after walking for fifteen minutes, they did not seem to be progressing. Their feet carried them and the terrain changed, but they did not move any closer to their destination.
Effect: Both Caterina and Dean are frightened. This will affect rational thought and performance under stress.
Dean: Lack of mental trait + Event = Frightened
Caterina: Lack of mental trait + Event = Frightened
Global Notice: The in-game time is now 9:00 PM.

Dean Grayson F e a r - s w a l l o w e r (Mod Edit: Riiiiiiiiiight...) Hoisting the human sack higher on his shoulder, Dean watched with a quirk of his eyebrow as the woman rushed off. His eyebrow climbed a little higher in response to her demand that he keep up. Really, she was ordering him around. With a shake of his head, Dean began to whistle in tune with his slow, leisurely steps. There was a thought in his mind that he should probably catch up with his guide but realized that she would never leave the man he was lugging around so generously. In fact, he wondered what type of connection the sassy woman have with his luggage. And then he realized something: he didn't care. All he cared about was getting out of the dark.
Dean almost tripped over his own two feet when a headache started playing drums on the inside of his skull. Where it came from all of a sudden, he didn’t know. He had a nipping sense that it was due to some outside interference but didn’t pay it much mind due to the fact that he was busy massaging his temples with one hand. At least he knew that the alcohol was working its way out of his system.
But, when his headache only seemed to get worse, he realized there was a light growing behind him. Dean was aware that a few other people were following them but, damn, did they all need to use their lights? Pissed; irritated. That’s all he was right then—a ball of fury mixed with a streak of light-sensitive pain. So it wasn’t much of a surprise when he ground out: “God damnit! Turn off that damn light!”
Pausing, he spun on his heel, baring his pearly whites at no one in particular. What he saw had his brow furrowing. Red, like a tide of blood, was all that consumed the end of the tunnel. And it wasn’t just any red; it swam in his vision, rippling like heat off a sidewalk. It would have been kinda cool if it hadn’t been for the whispers, if you could even call them that. It was like someone was murmuring in his ear, so low that he couldn’t make out the words but was audible enough that he knew someone was talking.
Feet pounded against the hard concrete as Dean swiftly caught up with the woman. He knew there was something odd with this picture (if the hairs on the back of his neck had anything to say) but wasn’t about to make his doubts heard for fear of looking like a wuss. He did glance over his shoulder periodically to find that they were neither outpacing the red nor getting any closer to the end of the tunnel. It was like a freaking nightmare.

Vincent was caught rather off guard as Jane approached him and he felt the Ice weighing down his arms before his mind had really registered that he had been the bags. He paused for a moment though nodded as he started to head off in the direction he should be going. Thankfully enough the hospital was easy enough to navigate, he didn’t have to second guess the gut feeling that would usually lead his way. He didn’t have time to glance through all the halls and wander blindly and after a moment he had found his way into the room the woman had told him to take the bags of ice to. He cleared his throat as he stepped into the room and held out the bags of ice. “Royce? I was told to bring these to you. I’m here to help in any way that I can.”

Upon entering the room, Vincent's gaze met, not Royce, but the tall black man's peculiar lack of a face; literally. All that the bulb which normally constituted a human head consisted of was dark, featureless flesh. There was no mistaking it, and his eyes were not being misled as far as head could tell.
"Hey; tryin' to bring this guy back to the land of the livin' here. Put those on his right arm, would you? 'S swellin' up pretty bad. No movement of the "mouth". A simple "glance" in Vincent's direction, and motioning of the hands toward the unconscious man. It was unclear whether or not this man was aware of his condition. Either way, it did not seem to be harming him.
Notice: No other characters except for Vincent Avery are aware of Royce's face, or lack thereof.

New York Presbyterian Hospital: Emergency Ward 2107 Hours
Bram Dennison
Fluttering his eyes gently, Bram was made somewhat aware of his surroundings. Loud, crème colored walls, a hint of iron-oxide in the air, bed, white sheets. He was definitely in a hospital; at least as far as his jarred mind could gather. As his senses slowly sparked back into working order, Bram could distinguish the various clots and bruises all over his body.
When his vision cleared, the Sergeant discerned the face of Royce Jones: an acquaintance of his from various calls within the twenty-third precinct. At the very least, he was under the watchful eyes of a well-trained, familiar individual. Where was his partner, though?
Upon attempting to move his head, Bram determined that he was still fairly crippled from his run-in with the the rioters, and too drained to move much more than his heart, lungs, and eyes. Royce was muttering something to someone beyond his range of vision; perhaps his partner? What was her name again? Jan? Joan? Jane! It must be Jane he was talking to.

Notice: Bram is unable to move until his next turn. Both Vincent Avery and Royce are unaware of Bram's consciousness.
Next Post: Valentine
Update: Vincent Avery is no longer a player controlled character. He will now function as an NPC. Player Lotus will be making a new, replacement character to be added at a later time. For now, skip her posting turn. An announcement will be made when Lotus produces a character.

The whispers that reached Caterina's ears were finally getting to her. Risking a look over her shoulder, Caterina saw the oil like red light getting closer to them as they continued going anywhere forward and away from the light. Her eyes widened with even more fear from before and began looking around for any sort of exit or shelter from the horror that was following them. As she continued to run with the man behind her, Caterina looked to their side and saw the train cars. Seeing no other option she glanced back at the young man and called to him.
"Quick, the safest place is the train car. Please help me open the doors!" The teacher took off to the door perpendicular to her and jammed her thin fingers into the rubber that lined the door and tried to pry them open. Tried was the word, since she was trained in stealth and survival; so Caterina wasn't very strong in her arms. Looking to see where the red light was, she noticed that it was still getting closer. Her eyes widened and she struggled even more to get the door open. "Please help!"

Dean Grayson D o o r - c r u n c h e r When the woman he was following stopped to pry at a set of doors, Dean almost ran her over in his frantic flight. Swerving to the side at the last minute, his feet were hard pressed to stop his forward momentum as he stumbled a few feet.
“Shit! Why’re ya stopping?!” Dean almost yelled at the stupid woman. Almost. His tone, however, quavered as his eyes darted over his shoulder to watch whatever freak anomaly was approaching them. Now, practically hopping from foot to foot, he watched the woman slowly go into hysterics—eyes wide but cogs turning. That didn’t help one bit. If he wasn’t scared moments before, he was now practically shitting himself. When the woman began begging for him to help her, Dean lunged towards the car. Dropping his human luggage none-too-gently, he leaned over the woman and dug his calloused finger tips in-between the rubber liners. Painful creaking mingled with the ever whispering voices as he tugged at the metal. Finally satisfied he had accomplished to make a big enough hole, Dean swung the woman up into the car before diving in himself.
Hitting the floor like a sack of potatoes, he scrambled back to the doors with the intent on closing them. But, when he grabbed one side, he hesitated. Those baby blues lingered on a lump of flesh and clothes not but a few feet away. The man his companion seemed to care so much about lay discarded and alone. The scene struck a heart-string in his barrel chest and made him think twice about being a selfish ass. But, as always, he pushed aside that feeling with a practiced ease and began tugging until he was satisfied they were as shut as he was going to get them.

As the doors resisted closing, barely, Richie was making a vague attempt to get to his feet, rising only when they had fully barred him for immediate entry.
All the while, the glowing, dark-red beacon had been growing in size, pursuing the train's former passengers slowly but surely with its impossibly flickering shadows. Further toward the other passengers they crept, until the slightest tip touched one of them.
Nigh instantaneously, the man's skin dislodged itself from his form, sloughing off in droves. The individual muscle fibers beneath separated, and streamed from his body, only to develop a mind of their own. The muscle-worms flowed across the tracks like water, darting from person to person. When they caught hold of an ankle, the victim would suddenly find the creatures swimming and weaving into their flesh. Whether they were devoured, or the they were simply being brought into the fold was unclear. What was certain was that upon reaching the chest cavity, thousands more burst from the victim, pouring onto the floor.
Whether or not they felt pain was obvious to any onlooker.
Groggily, the school teacher stumbled to the door in a panic, and attempted to pry the doors open, wedging his fingers between the rubber slits that effectively sealed the doors from the outside world. The horde of repurposed human flesh was closing on Richie quickly, and it was certain that he would die.
Event: Dean must decide whether or not to let Richie into the train car. If he does, there is no telling if the worms will make it into the train or not. If Dean refuses him entry, he will need to hold the doors closed to prevent entry.

Dizzy from being thrown into the train car Caterina slowly pushed herself up from the dirty floor, faint screams echoed from the tunnel fully shaking her from her disorientation. Looking up through the windows, the teacher saw the red light around their safe house, and as she picked her self up she noticed Richie at the door trying to get in as-monsters of some sort- surrounded him and were advancing at a fast rate. Caterina's eyes widened in fear for her friend, she quickly stepped around the man who had thrown her into the train car. "Rich..."
Even though she was physically drained from the adrenaline that had depleted from her blood, Caterina still attempted to open the door with no luck.

Notice: Caterina is now attempting to aid Richie. This will make keeping the door closed significantly more difficult should Dean try to hold the doors closed.

Dean Grayson D o o r - c r u n c h e r ModifiedJust when he thought he was safe, crawling away from the suddenly red windows, he realized that the doors he had just closed were now being violently yanked at. By who? Someone who had a conscious, apparently.
“What are you doing?! Stop that!” Dean ground out, teeth bared in a snarl. Flinging himself forwards, he bodily lifted the woman away from the doors. Replacing her body with his own, he kneeled so that his head was below the windows and he could better keep the woman away as he continued to press the doors closed.
Screams still penetrated the air, only louder now that Dean was closer to the source. Peeking over the edge of the window, Dean couldn’t help but stare in awe at the horror dancing before his eyes. It made his heart beat faster; it made his palms sweat; it made him scared for his life. He hadn’t felt that kind of fear since he was a child. Flinching away from the window, away from the fear bubbling in his stomach, he hunkered down to try to block out everything but the cool metal under his hands.

In Dean's terrified haze, he rushed toward the hysterical Caterina, thinking only of their possible fate should the doors open. As his fingers barely reached her blouse, the door, being operated by both her and Richie from either side, slid open several inches. The ensuing clash between Caterina and Dean landed her on her back, violently, and Dean wildly sprawled out on his side from the hasty throw.
As they lay there, a terrified and concussed Richie pressed furiously against the doors, sliding them open further with increased strength. He flung an arm into the car, beginning to claw his way forward. Until he ominously paused, mid-motion.
The screams from the tunnel outside were seemed all too distant suddenly, as Caterina and Dean looked on in horror and wonder.
Richie's back erupted like a giant growth, spurting the muscle-worms all over his body, quickly consuming him. When they finished with him, they would move on to Dean and Caterina...
Dean: Action Failure
Fear + Action + Action(Caterina) = Failure
Dean failed to reach Caterina in time, and his terror incited hastier, more sloppy, broad movements.
Caterina: Action Success
Fear + Action = Success
Caterina successfully, in her terror and hysteria, pried the door open enough to allow Richie into the train car. However, Dean's intervention has temporarily disoriented her movements. She is somewhat physically and mentally shaken, and will have slower reflexes for the duration of her next turn.
Notice: Character Death may now occur.
Notice: Dean and Caterina must escape from the train within the next turn (Dean's turn and Caterina's turn; both of the characters' escape may be facilitated by one post) to survive.
There is a hatch on the ceiling of the train car. There may be an access shaft leading to the streets above them. However, it is eight feet above the floor of the train car. The hatch could be reached by climbing the rough poles on either side of the car, and pulling the hatch down, extending a short ladder located on the outer-most side of the hatch. This, of course, is provided that the car has been retro-fitted.
There is a door leading to the next car on either end. They are not locked.
The windows on the opposite side of the door may be broken, and used to escape into the tunnel on the other side. However, it cannot be determined if there is oncoming rail traffic.
The door on the opposite side of the one that is currently open may be opened through brute force. However, the same issue is presented as the above: there is no way to determine if there is any oncoming traffic.
There are no weapons in the train car.
Lastly, if either Dean or Caterina were to sacrifice the other, it would slow down the muscle-worms long enough to guarantee their escape. The other character would be killed.
